Cut Paw Paw CaféRole : Designer and Project Manager Restoration and extension of a heritage listed building to create a ground floor café and first floor residence. The interior of the café was designed to allow natural light into the previously dark building. This was achieved through the inclusion of a large window into the rear of the café, and interior wall ‘slots’, providing connection between café spaces and allowing for natural light penetration and ventilation. An external seating area was designed to take advantage of the northern orientation. The slab on ground was ground and polished providing thermal mass and an attractive floor finish. The upstairs residence was designed to take advantage of the views of the West Gate bridge. The original shopfront was restored and reused as the rear bifold glazing for the residence to open onto the balcony.
Car Wash Club, Highpoint Shopping CentreRole : ESD Consultant and Project Manager The carwash club at Highpoint shopping centre features a water treatment and recycling facility. Water used to wash cars is contained, treated, stored and then re-used, achieving approximately 80% reuse of water. Other features include recycled plastic fencing, energy efficient lighting and low flow pressure cleaners.
Anderson Weir Eco-RetreatRole : Designer and Project Manager Many Eco Tourism developments aim to take people into sensitive and pristine environments with minimal damage. This project aimed to take a piece of farmland and restore it with the original Otway Ranges flora. As part of this project an Eco Retreat building was designed to maximize passive solar design including northern orientation, shading, ventilation, insulation and thermal mass. The development aimed for self-sufficiency with on-site services including: treated grey and blackwater for re-use in toilets and landscaping, rainwater for all other water supply, photovolatics and micr-hydro for power generation and solar hot water system. Proposed East Bentleigh Steiner KindergartenRole : ESD Consultant The provision of Environmentally Sustainable Design (ESD) Consultancy services to a group of energetic and dedicated parents who were designing the retro-fit of an existing building to create a new kindergarten allowed thought to be given to passive solar design, rainwater for toilet flushing and re-use of building materials.
